The purpose of Quick Assist is exactly what one would need to remotely help a friend of family member if both parties have Windows 10 of course. Dear Bill I know in your world only Windows 10 seems to exist can you please have that fixed so we can use this with other Windows versions as well, or dare I say; even from a Mac? So Quick Assist was exactly what I was looking for, and best of all: no additional software or tools needed. Having worked with RDP Remote Desktop Protocol and Windows Remote Assistance before, I assumed Microsoft would have used that same technology for this purpose as well, just in a more secure manner and much easier to use.

So my hopes were high and I can tell you; I have not been disappointed, and it preforms much better that the Chrome Remote Desktop! Both computers need to run Windows 10, and both parties should be available at their computers to initiate the connection. Now when both computers are running, both parties will need to start Quick Assist.

In case you cannot find Quick Assist then you might need to update your Windows 10 to the latest version. Pretty obvious right? Quick Assist — Login to your Microsoft Account. Once the user entered the code on their end your connection will be established takes a few seconds. Quick Assist may look like a simply tiny application, but it has some neat features geared towards assisting others.

This may not always work properly. Of all these functions, annotation is probably the most interesting; it allows you to draw in the other persons computer. I found this to work well, once you realize that you have to click the screen first as the helper and after that click and hold the left mouse button to draw.

Drawing could be a little smoother and it would have been nice if Microsoft would have added the means to draw a circle, square or arrow more conveniently. Quick Assist Annotate — Draw on the screen. Quick Assist is a Windows 10 application that enables a person to share their device with another person over a remote connection. In this way, they can troubleshoot, diagnose technological issues, and provide instructions to users directly on their devices.

All that\’s required to use Quick Assist is suitable network and internet connectivity. No particular roles, permissions, or policies are involved. Neither party needs to be in a domain. The helper must have a Microsoft account. Local Active Directory authentication is not supported at this time. The traffic is encrypted with TLS 1. The helper selects Assist another person. Quick Assist on the helper\’s side contacts the Remote Assistance Service to obtain a session code. The helper then provides the code to the sharer.

After the sharer enters the code in their Quick Assist app, Quick Assist uses that code to contact the Remote Assistance Service and join that specific session.

Input is shared from the helper to the sharer through the RDP relay service. Microsoft logs a small amount of session data to monitor the health of the Quick Assist system. This data includes the following information:. Microsoft cannot access a session or view any actions or keystrokes that occur in the session. Microsoft does not store any data about either the sharer or the helper for longer than three days. In some scenarios, the helper does require the sharer to respond to application permission prompts User Account Control , but otherwise the helper has the same permissions as the sharer on the device.

In the Give assistance section, helper selects Assist another person. The helper might be asked to choose their account or sign in. Quick Assist generates a time-limited security code.

The user enters the provided code in the Code from assistant box, and then selects Share screen. The helper receives a dialog offering the opportunity to take full control of the device or just view its screen. After choosing, the helper selects Continue. The sharer receives a dialog asking for permission to show their screen or allow access. The sharer gives permission by selecting the Allow button. If for some reason a user doesn\’t have Quick Assist on their system or it\’s not working properly, they might need to uninstall and reinstall it.
